Peace, Security and Development Discussed in Kosovo

Pristina, Kosovo - Many distinguished guests attended a UPF conference entitled “A Comprehensive Vision of Peace, Security and Development,” which took place in Pristina, the capital of Kosovo April 20, 2013. More than 100 people attended the opening session and around 70 stayed until the end. Member of Parliament Hydajet Hyseni, who also is on the Global Peace Council, opened the conference.

Chairman of the Kosovan Parliament H.E. Jakup Krasniqi, former Kosovan President Fatmir Sejdiu and Mr. Adem Demaci, winner of the Sakharov Peace Prize, greeted the conference.

UPF-Europe President Paul An gave the opening address and introduced Rev. Gi-young Shin as the special adviser for UPF in Albania and Kosovo. Mr. Mark Brann, secretary general of UPF-Europe, presented the basic principles of UPF and reported about the February 2013 World Summit on Peace, Security and Development, which had been attended by the Kosovan prime minister.

The second session was dedicated to the five principles of UPF presented by Mr. Ali Laçej, former chairman of UPF-Albania. Ms. Alexandra Channer then spoke on “Peace, Security and Development.”

In the final session Mr. Ismajl Kurteshi, chairman of UPF-Kosovo, and Mr. Bajram Ibraj, chairman of UPF-Albania, reported on their respective organizations’ activities. The last speaker was Mr. Mark Brann, who gave a general report on UPF International during the last year and then presented the vision for the next seven years. He emphasized that UPF sees Albania and Kosovo as having great potential for development and growth. At the end of the session a video about the life of UPF Founder Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon was shown.

The event concluded with the appointment of four new Ambassadors for Peace. Imam Rahmi, speaking on behalf of the new appointees, thanked the organizers for this special honor and promised to work harder.
