Call for Nepalis to Put National Interests above Politics

Members of the Universal Peace Federation took to the streets of Kathmandu, Nepal on October 15 to bring a new spirit to the stalled talks. Placards reading “Forgive, Love, Unite,” called on all parties to put the interest of the nation above political self-interests.

Fundamental issues such as corruption, trafficking of Nepalese women, break down of traditional family values, and the escalation of HIV/AIDS, will not be solved simply by importing another political structure. “The fundamental problems facing our nation,” said Mr. Ek Nath Dhakal, the Director of the Universal Peace Federation in Nepal, “are spiritual in nature and rooted in the family. They require a re-evaluation of the basic family values, which are universal and serve as a model of peace at every level of society.”

UPF-Nepal has held a series of high-level conferences and seminars over the past few years to address the basic human concerns.

Mother Moon and her family were received as official state guests to Nepal by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Rt. Hon. Subash Chandra Nembang, last month. On one day, September 22nd, Mrs. Moon, her children and grandchildren spoke in 12 venues including Pokhara, Chitwan and throughout the Kathmandu valley. They talked about rebuilding the family of humankind, centered on God, as the most essential element to peace.

The former Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Amb. K.V. Rajan, gave closing remarks at the main program held at the Birendra International Convention Center. Although people of good will are trying to solve these problems, “Rev. Moon has gone to the root of the problem,” he said. The work of Father Moon and the UPF, he added, is “extremely important for South Asia.” Amb. Rajan told the 1,500 capacity crowd that the Moons are spending their financial resources and pushing themselves and their family to the extreme for the sake of building a better world.
