Tbilisi, Georgia - Children in school #136 in the capital of Georgia received gifts on Nov. 27, 2009, sent by school children from the Urals region of Russia as part of a project to build bonds between the people of the neighboring countries.
During the South Caucasus Peace Initiative, UPF-Urals made contact with UPF-Georgia and planned activities to build person-to-person bonds among children as part of the "Urals - Georgia: We'll Be Friends" project. With the support of government and public organizations, peacemaking activities are being organized in Yekaterinburg, Russia, and Tbilisi, Georgia. In Russia, activists with the UPF-Urals and the Women’s Federation for World Peace together with authorities of Sverdlovsk regional department of Children’s Foundation of Russia held a meeting with children at the Special Child school. The pupils of the school, who are mentally and physically retarded, prepared envelopes with gifts to send to the children of Georgia with their portraits as postage stamps.
When the Tbilisi children received the gifts, they gave their personal information to start communication with their peers in the Urals. With the help of Ambassadors for Peace of Georgia, they are preparing responses and displaying the messages.
