Riga, Latvia - On the occasion of the International Day of Families on May 15, the Universal Peace Federation honored UN resolution 52/81 of December 12, 1997, in which the United Nations General Assembly recognized the need to strengthen and support families in performing their societal and developmental functions.
UPF-Latvia held a special family meeting on the theme of "Successful Families in Modern Days" on May 10 in Riga with the goal of strengthening and uplifting the families in our nation.
During the meeting we had two presentations: Mr. Vadim Bolshakov spoke on the family as a root of all problems in society and a key to resolving them. Mr. Jacques Marion, Secretary General of UPF-Eurasia, spoke on the role of parents in bringing spiritual renewal to the family and society.
After the presentations, there was an opportunity to get to know the Ambassadors for Peace more deeply. Mr. and Mrs. Martinson, who have 13 children, shared some of their family experiences. Twenty-eight people attended the meeting.
