Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire - The UN International Day of Families was celebrated on May 15 in the Abidjan City Hall. More than 200 people attended the ceremony, including three Members of Parliament, the Chief of Cabinet of the Governor of Abidjan, NGO leaders, women leaders, community leaders, and youth leaders.
The program started with an invocation by an imam and a pastor. The Secretary General of UPF-Côte d'Ivoire called upon a representative of the United Nations Population Fund, Mrs. Pauline Youle, an expert on gender issues, to the podium to give an address. Four couples talked about their family experiences couples.
The Declaration of the Day of Families was read with conviction by Hon. Sery Bi Guessan Bernard, a Member of Parliament, and the ceremony ended with participants signing the declaration.
The following day, the ceremony was broadcast on national television.
