Ottawa, Canada - At the conclusion its national conference in Ottawa last May, the Canadian Peace Council decided to hold an annual national conference under the broad theme of educating for peace. The 2010 national conference will take place June 3 in Ottawa on the theme Making Canada’s Families Work: An Inter-Religious and Inter-Cultural Discussion.
The family in Canada is undergoing continual transformation as the cultural and ethnic composition of our population is enriched by the arrival of new Canadians, and challenged by the continuous decline of birth rates below sustainable levels.
The conference will explore some aspects of the impact of these demographic changes on the expression of cultural and religious values through social and political encounters.
The Canada Peace Council of the global Universal Peace Federation is a network of individuals, organizations, and Ambassadors for Peace committed to all aspects of peace through dialogue, education, and service. Through its branches, currently in Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal, the council seeks to bring civil society solutions to critical local and global problems. We believe that Educating for Peace conferences can make a significant contribution to the building of a world of lasting peace.
Canada’s contribution to the culture of global peace is highly respected. Having links to the G8, NATO, the Commonwealth of Nations, la Francophonie, Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, the Organization of American States, and the North American Free Trade Association affords us extraordinary opportunities to continue the advancement of peace in the world.
The conference will take place in the Amphitheater of St. Paul’s University, 223 Main Street, Ottawa from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM.
