UN Day of Families 2011 Observed in 47 Nations

New York, USA - UPF chapters organized a variety of celebrations of the International Day of Families, May 15. The theme for 2011 chosen by the United Nations was "Confronting Family Poverty and Social Exclusion." For reports of events in Africa, the Americas, Asia, Eurasia, Europe, and Oceania, click here.

The International Day provides an opportunity to promote awareness of issues relating to families and increase the knowledge of the social, economic, and demographic processes affecting families. The day is an opportunity for all countries to demonstrate support to families. The day was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly resolution in 1993 (A/RES/47/237) and reflects the importance the international community attaches to families.
