Quito, Ecuador - UPF-Ecuador organized a celebration of the International Day of Families on May 14 in the hall of the Association of Ecuadorian Municipalities. Among the speakers was a representative of UNICEF in Ecuador.
Dr. Lucia Oña, an assessor with the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Aquaculture, and Fishing, gave an explanation about the work of her ministry to expand work opportunities for the people of Ecuador and how this work is coordinated with other related ministries, including the Ministry of Education.
Miss Geoconda Ruiz, Secretary to Congressman Juan Fernández, spoke about the challenges of combating extreme poverty and improve the quality of life in Ecuador. She also spoke about the importance of strengthening ethical and spiritual values.
A message from the Minister of Peoples, Social Movements, and Citizen Participation, Dr. María Luisa Moreno, was read by Lic. Lorena Ortiz. She talked about the Ministry's efforts to improve the education, work, and health of indigenous people and Afro-Ecuadorians.
