Montevideo, Uruguay - Awards were presented to couples who have been married 25 years or more at a May 17 ceremony at the Radisson Montevideo Victoria Plaza Hotel. Among the speakers were the following:

Lic. Edgardo Martínez Zimarioff: “In my 30 years of marriage it is my experience that the family is the privileged setting for building a peaceful world; it is the school where we are educated in dialogue and harmonious encounters.”

Mtra. Lila Sebastiani de Pugliesi (married 54 years): “Without stable families it is impossible to speak of a better world; only true love, capable of overcoming the greatest challenges, can establish stable families.”

Mtra. Solange Vignali Beltrán, Ambassador for Peace:“In the family, the cradle and custodian of life, human beings, men and women, are born and grow as people, as children, as brothers and sisters, thanks to the model of their parents. The family is the cell of the social organism, and the healthy family as the foundation of a free and just society.”

Proc. María Albini de Alvarez, President of the Women’s Federation for World Peace-Uruguay: “The value of the family is rooted in the affection and responsibility that its members assume in their commitment as fathers and mothers, children, and other members, to live day after day, in happy moments, problems, and the quest for solutions to their conflicts.”
