Lima - A forum celebrating the International Day of Families took place in the Peruvian Congress on May 25. Congressman Dr. Yonhy Lescano Ancieta co-sponsored the program along with UPF-Peru. Among the 200 participants were students of the Federico Villareal National University and the Villa Maria del Triunfo College.

Speakers included Dr. Yonhy Lescano; Lic. Carla Rojas-Bolivar, representing the Minister of Women; and Rev. Alberto Florido of the Family Federation. Silvia Rodriguez de Acero sang "Cancion de Paz."
On this occasion the Office of the United Nations in Peru was represented by Dr. Pilar Sifuentes Mascco, an economist who graduated from the Agrarian University of La Molina. Dr. Sifuentes shared the vision of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon for this day.
The following families were recognized as "Protagonists of Peace" for their valuable ongoing work as a couple focused on bringing peace to Peru and the world:
- Arq. Luis Huarcaya Alzamora and Lic. Isabel Rodríguez de Huarcaya
- Rev. Dr. Orestes Sánchez and Sra. Carmen del Pilar Baldeon de Sánchez
- Pastor Luis Enrique Acero and Sra. Silvia Rodríguez de Acero
The program closed with the appointment of New Ambassadors for Peace and an interreligious water ceremony. [Spanish]
Trujillo - On May 15, an International Day of Families program took place in Trujillo at the municipal hall of La Esperanza district. Speakers included mayor Daniel Marcelo J. and Dr. Gloria Montenegro, both Ambassadors for Peace. Mr. Wilson Chavez Vasquez, Executive Director of UPF-Trujillo, spoke on the theme chosen by the UN for the International Day of Families 2012: Ensuring Work-Family Balance. Couples who have been married for more than 25 years were honored with a diploma and medal. [Spanish]
