Tbilisi, Georgia - UPF-Georgia observed the International Day of Families with programs at a school for mentally handicapped children on May 13 and the Women's Information Center on May 15.

Concert at a school for mentally handicapped children, May 13
Universal Peace Federation - Georgia in collaboration with pupils from 8th grade of Public School #136 organized a celebration of the UN International Day of Families for mentally handicapped children on May 13. About 100 teachers and children joined a holiday with a theme “Happy Together.”
Participants enjoyed a nice performance with a slideshow on friendship, a skit about happiness, funny tricks, contests, and the energetic Georgian dances. At the end of the program children shared a large, delicious cake. Everybody experienced the atmosphere of love and friendship as one big family.
Celebration at the Women's Information Center, May 15
UPF-Georgia took part in the celebration of the International Day of Families together with women leaders and the head of the Ivorian association in Georgia on May 15 at the Women's Information Center. During the meeting questions about protection of rights of the women from ethnic minorities and the implementation of the recommendations from the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women were discussed.
On this occasion, UPF offered recommendations to acknowledge the family as the central building block of society as well as an instrument for peace and reconciliation and to recognize the need to strengthen and support families in performing their societal and developmental functions.
