The Moderator, Mr. Horace Matthews, who is a Lay Magistrate, warmly welcomed the gathering. Prayers were then offered. This was followed by a briefing on the UN's declaration of the day and UPF's Statement on Families. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's message was read by Miss Millicent Johnson, who is an Ambassador for Peace and a member of the Phillippo Baptist Church.

The more than 50 participants included persons from various religions and NGOs. It was especially noteworthy to have in attendance families with three generations present (grandparents, parents, and children).

A segment of the program consisted of several beautiful poems and glowing tributes dedicated to mothers. These expressions truly warmed the hearts of everyone. Four mothers were appointed new Ambassadors for Peace.

The UPF–Jamaica representative, Mr. Dennis Salmon, highlighted the UN's theme for this year's observance: "Ensuring Work-Family Balance." He also gave the main presentation, entitled “The Family as the School of Love.” The presentation was well received by a very appreciative and supportive audience who engaged in very frank discussions regarding steps that can be taken to ensure that Jamaica becomes "a nation of peaceful families."

After group photos were taken, everyone joined hands and sang ”Let There Be Peace on Earth.” This was followed by a closing prayer by Ambassador for Peace Bro. Michael Greenland, a Deacon in the Ethiopian Orthodox Church.
