UN International Day of Families 2015

International Day of Families Observed in Korea

Korea-2015-05-16-International Day of Families

Seoul, Korea—More than fourteen members of the diplomatic community, representing seven countries, in Seoul attended an event organized by UPF-Korea on May 16, 2015 to celebrate the UN International Day of Families.

The event, which was held at the Hannam International Guest House, was emceed by Dr. Thomas Selover. After Dr. Selover introduced the guests, songs were offered by Mrs. Tokiko Richardson and Ms. Riwa Kawabata, accompanied by Mrs. Megumi Sonoda, who played the piano.

Mrs. Elizabeth Kang, a representative of UPF-Seoul, then read the “Crown of Glory,” a poem written by UPF Founder Rev. Sun Myung Moon, in English.  Dr. Young Dong Kim and his wife Mrs. Harumi Masubuchi read the poem in Korean.

The reading was followed by a presentation given by Professor Michael Brazil on "The Peaceful Family is the Building Block of World Peace."

Everyone then sang two songs, one from the East, and one from the West: “Arirang” (a Korean folk song) and “Let there be Peace on Earth.”

Mr. Jorge Icaza, consul general and deputy head of the Embassy of the Republic of Ecuador in Seoul, gave a toast to peace.

Flower baskets, which were arranged by Mrs. Fumiko Kadomatsu, were given as gifts to the guests.

Guests who were not in a hurry to leave enjoyed the beautiful garden at the house, and each other’s company.
