Kinshasa, D.R. Congo—About 50 participants attended the UPF celebration of International Day of Families 2016 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
On May 15, UPF, in partnership with other affiliated organizations, held the event at Le Palmier d'Or restaurant in Kinshasa, the capital. The participants included 25 Ambassadors for Peace.
Jean Pierre Kadima, secretary general of UPF of D.R. Congo, read the official message from UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and explained the significance of the Day of Families. He also spoke of the launch of the new international association Parliamentarians for Peace.
Mike Samuel Makenda of UPF gave a PowerPoint presentation summarizing the recommendations of the International Leadership Conference held in Seoul, Korea, in February as well as the vision of the UPF Founders. Other participants gave their viewpoints on issues affecting families.
The event also offered the opportunity to announce the worldwide Peace Road initiative, which was scheduled to take place in Kinshasa on May 29.
