New Delhi, India—UPF-India and the NGO Let the Spirit Move co-organized an event on May 15 in celebration of the UN International Day of Families 2016. Let the Spirit Move is based in New Delhi and works to change the lives of underprivileged children in India. More than 60 people attended the event, including local professors, teachers, students and youth volunteers.
The program opened with a prayer that was offered by students from the Foundation. Mr. Dilip Kumar Mishra then introduced UPF and its activities in India. Aftewards, Mr. Birendra Shrestha, program coordinator of UPF-India, gave a presentation on “Families, Healthy Lives and Sustainable Future.” He spoke about UPF Founder Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon’s vision of peace; that the family is the foundation for building a world of peace.
He quoted Rev. Moon, saying, “Love never starts from oneself. Love starts from the other partner. When we do not have a partner, love cannot even begin. When we see human beings as the center, even God becomes a counterpart. A woman is a man's counterpart, and children are counterparts to their parents; love cannot be realized without counterparts.”
The guest of honor, Dr. Parmod Kumar Mehra, a professor at the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), gave a special message on the role and importance of the family in building a world of peace.
Special remarks were given by Mrs. Annie, co-director of Let the Spirit Move, and Mr. Hemant Kumar, board member of UPF-India, both of whom thanked the organizers and everyone for attending the program.
