Trujillo, Peru—The Trujillo chapter of UPF-Peru celebrated the UN International Day of Families 2017 by honoring couples who have been married for many years.
More than 100 guests, including representatives of local institutions and NGOs, attended the event, which was co-sponsored by the mayor of Trujillo, a city in coastal northwestern Peru, and took place in the offices of La Esperanza.
The opening remarks were given by Ambassador for Peace Mr. Daniel Marcelo Jacinto. Mrs. Maria Aurora Ruiz Huaman of the Commission for Families of the National Police shared some words of inspiration and brought with her a small delegation of police officers.
UPF-Trujillo representatives, Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Chavez, gave presentations on the family as expressed in the words of UPF Founder Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon.
A video about Rev. Moon entitled “Man of Peace” and video performances of the Korean performing arts group, the Little Angels, were shown.
The couples were honored with certificates of recognition, and when the eldest couple, who have been married for 72 years and who are both 93 years old, were recognized, they were overcome with emotion.
