Mission of Maldives to the UN Hosts Tea Ceremony

New York, USA—The Maldives Ambassador to the United Nations H.E. Mr. Ahmed Sareer co-hosted a Japanese Tea Ceremony with UPF International. The event took place on November 25, 2015 in the  conference room of the Maldives Mission to the UN.

The participants included ambassadors from Nepal, India and Sri Lanka; a representative of the Kiribati Mission to the UN; and diplomats and staff from the Maldives Mission.

The ceremony was filled with a family-like atmosphere. Ambassador Sareer, who is also the chair of the Alliance of Small Island States, explained what the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are and said, “UPF is doing good things to support the SDGs.” Mrs. Sareer, the wife of the Ambassador, made food and dessert for the guests of the ceremony.

All the participants enjoyed every step of the beautiful Tea Ceremony, as well as appreciated the deep meaning of it.

After tea, the Korean folk song, “Sarang Hae,” (meaning “I love you”) was performed.

The Ambassador of India to the UN showed a photo of where the tea ceremony took place when India’s Prime Minister met Japan’s Prime Minister in Japan.
