The UN International Year of Reconciliation, 2009, was commemorated with events organized by UPF chapters in Argentina, Austria, Czech Republic, Japan, Lebanon, and Russia. See also the commentary by Gerald Coleman, member of Liberia's Truth and Reconciliation Commission, about the commission's report released in 2009, the Year of Reconciliation.
UN General Assembly Resolution A/RES/61/17 invited "concerned Governments and international and non-governmental organizations to support reconciliation processes among affected and/or divided societies and to plan and implement adequate cultural, educational and social programmes to promote the concept of reconciliation, including holding conferences and seminars and disseminating information about the issue."
