On UN Day of Children's Protection Russians Make 'Flowers of Peace' for Georgian Children

Perm, Russia - A master-class on “Flowers of peace” took place in the Children's Creativity Center “Rhythm” of the teenagers’ club “Rostok” (“A Sprout”) in Perm on June 5, 2012. The event was related to the International Day of Children’s Protection; it was initiated by two Ambassadors for Peace, Yulya Orekhova and Lyubov Kuklina as part of the "Urals - Georgia: We'll Be Friends" project.
More than 20 schoolchildren of the “summer ground” participated in the project. Children were enthusiastic about making flowers from organza and angel talisman dolls under the guidance of Natalya Koryagina, a volunteer from the Women’s Federation for World Peace. The head of the organization, Lyubov Kuklina, shared about the South Caucasus Peace Initiative project which took place last year in Zugdidi, Georgia, and will be held again this year.
Though many children worked with a needle for the first time, the promise that their gifts will be sent to the boarding school for orphaned children inspired them so much that after making flowers each of them wrote a letter of friendship to their peers in Georgia.
This project is part of UPF's South Caucasus Peace Initiative ongoing project to build connections between children in Russia and children in Georgia. For more information click here.
