La Esperanza, Peru—UPF-Peru’s regional offices in the cities of Trujillo, Ayacucho and Puno, established a few years ago, continue to celebrate United Nations days. On December 15, 2017, a celebration of the International Day of Human Rights was held at the town hall of the municipality of La Esperanza in Trujillo province.
More than 120 people, including councilors of the municipality; the governor of Trujillo province; the director and staff of Unidad de Gestión Educativa Local (UGEL) la Libertad; Ambassadors for Peace; representatives from the Women's Network; the commissioner of the district of La Esperanza; the director of the Women's Emergency Center; and Ambassador for Peace Ms. Luisa Centurion, attended the celebration. The event’s coordinators were Mr. Wilson Chavez and Mrs. Pilar Alvarez of UPF–Trujillo, and Dr. Sandra Terrones, an Ambassador for Peace and director of social development for the municipality of La Esperanza.
Seven new Ambassadors for Peace were appointed, all of whom expressed their commitment to work for peace. Presentations about the International Day of Human Rights were given and two videos: one about UPF and another about the launch of the International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace (IAPP), were shown.
