Lima, Peru—On June 21, UPF-Peru held an evening program “Celebrating the International Day of Yoga of the United Nations 2018." The event, which took place in the auditorium of the chapter's headquarters, was emceed by Dr. Baltazar Trujillo, an Ambassador for Peace.
The program began with the video "International Yoga Day UN 2018." Then, former ambassador of Peru, Hon. Carlos Alberto Yrigoyen, gave a speech on “The Magic of Yoga," which was followed by remarks by Mr. Kishore Gupta, president of the Hindu Geeta Ashram in Peru and an Ambassador for Peace.
Twelve new Ambassadors for Peace were appointed, including a former police general, two university directors and three lawyers. Dr. Trevor E. Jones, president of UPF-Peru, led the ceremony, handing each of the new Ambassadors a certificate and medal.
After the ceremony, members of the Great Universal Brotherhood (GFU) gave a demonstration of gymnastics and asanas. The artistic session continued with a performance of Bharatanatyam, an Indian classical dance, which was presented by Gopervara, and music was performed by the Peruvian-Greek composer Mr. Achileas Moros.
Dr. Jones gave the closing remarks, recalling the importance of mediation and prayer, and also affirming the importance of the family as the cornerstone of a good society. At the end of the event, guests enjoyed a vegetarian cocktail refreshment provided by the GFU.
