New Delhi, India—UPF in partnership with the Youth and Students for Peace (YSP), an affiliated organization, celebrated International Youth Day with a webinar, held on August 12, 2020, on the theme, “COVID-19 and Our Youth.” More than 457 people participated in the event: 107 through Zoom and over 450 through Facebook Live.
The online event featured eight speakers, including two parliamentarians, a former ambassador, an educator, a youth representative, and representatives of YSP International and India.
Special remarks were given by parliamentarians Hon. Bhubaneswar Kalita, a member of parliament and chairman of the International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace (IAPP)-South Asia, and Dr. Sasmit Patra, a member of parliament, Rajya Sabha; Dr. Robert S. Kittel, director of peace education of UPF-Asia Pacific and international chair of Youth and Students for Peace (YSP); and Mr. Robin Hibu, special commissioners of the Delhi Police.
Among the panelists were Dr. Munish Tamang, associate professor at Motilal Nehru College, University of Delhi; Amb. K.V. Rajan, former ambassador of India and chairman of UPF-India; Mrs. Siddhi Johri, Mrs. Galaxy Queen India 2019 and Mrs. India International 2019; and Mr. Jihosuya Jena, president of YSP-India.
Mr. Krishna Adhikari, secretary general of UPF-India, served as the moderator, and Mr. Birendra Shrestha, vice president of YSP-India, who served as the rapporteur for the event, gave the vote of thanks.
