Peru—In the framework of the celebrations of the United Nations World Science Day for Peace and Development 2021, on November 26, 2021, UPF-Peru held a ceremony appointing 44 new Ambassadors for Peace in the auditorium of the Federation of Journalists of Peru. The event brought together more than 100 people.
Prominent leaders and authorities such as Congressmen Eng. Carlos Javier Zeballos Madariaga and Mr. Abel Augusto Reyes Cam, were appointed as Ambassadors for Peace.
Also, four rectors from the main national universities of Peru attended as special guests and were also appointed as Ambassadors:
- Jeri Ramón Ruffner, Rector of National University of San Marcos (first female rector of the first officially established university and the oldest continuously operating university in the Americas).
- Pablo Alfonso López Chau Nava, Rector of National University of Engineering.
- Juan Oswaldo Alfaro Bernedo, Rector of Federico Villarreal National University.
- Américo Guevara Pérez, Rector of National Agrarian University - La Molina.
Likewise, distinguished Ambassadors for Peace were invited to participate as panellists:

Lic. Jaime Fernández, secretary general of UPF-Peru, was the emcee for the event and UPF-Peru president, Dr. Trevor Jones, participated in the meeting through the internet.
The panellists shared their thoughts and reflections about UN World Science Day for Peace and Development on the theme “Building Climate-Ready Communities.” The speakers acknowledged the work of the United Nations and the Universal Peace Federation in raising awareness among citizens concerning scientific advances and the provision of the necessary knowledge for decision-making, in order to promote understanding about the fragility of the planet on which we live and create a more equitable, peaceful and sustainable world.
