Peru-2021-12-11-UPF-Peru: Commemoration of United Nations Human Rights Day

Peru—On Saturday, December 22, 2021, Universal Peace Federation (UPF) Peru branch held a commemoration of United Nations Human Rights Day, co-sponsored by the International Association of Youth and Students for Peace (IAYSP) Peru and the Women’s Federation for World Peace (WFWP) Peru, at its headquarters in Miraflores, Lima, with more than 120 guests.

The meeting brought together distinguished guests, including Rev. Dr. David Dong Woo Kim, regional president of FFWPU in South America; former police general and vice president of UPF-Peru, Mr. Héctor Jhon Caro; Congressman José Alberto Arriola Tueros; Congressman Abel Augusto Reyes Cam; former army lieutenant colonel and former Congressman Luis Alberto Yika García; and former Congressman Dr. Yonhy Lescano Ancieta.

Likewise, UPF-Peru branch president, Dr. Trevor Jones, participated in the meeting via Zoom. UPF-Peru general secretary Jaime Fernández was emcee. WFWP-Peru president Mrs. María del Rosario López Balcona and IAYSP-Peru president Mr. Dokhwa Miraval, were also seated at the head table.

Under the UN theme “All human beings, all equal,” the guests of honor shared their thoughts about the commemoration of Human Rights Day. The panellists celebrated the efforts that UPF-Peru has been making in favor of building a society with solid principles and solid values in response to the needs of people, especially of those most in need, ratifying their commitment to contribute to the establishment of a culture of peace.

As part of the meeting, Ex Gral. Héctor Jhon Caro, vice president of UPF-Peru, officiated at the nomination ceremony of 9 new Ambassadors for Peace, including the following distinguished people: Dr. Arcelia Olga Rojas Salazar, rector of the National University of Callao UNAC; Dr. Lida Violeta Asencios Trujillo, rector of Enrique Guzmán y Valle National Education University; and the former regional prefect of Metropolitan Lima, Eng. Verónica Cáceres Fernández.

The meeting also featured an artistic performance by the well-known musician César Villalobos; a singer-songwriter from Ayacucho, Rebeca Najarro Castro; and a singer-songwriter from Ancash, Luzmila Sifuentes.

At the end of the meeting awards were presented to the guests of honor, recognising their work for peace. Dr. David D. W. Kim received a plaque in recognition of his work in South America.
