Perth, Australia – Fazida Razak, a member of the Religious Youth Service Global Management Team, spoke to teachers and students at St John XXIII School in Perth, Australia, on Feb. 8, 2008 about her work with Religious Youth Service and the Interreligious Peace Sports Festival.
Autumn 2007 was a busy time for character education. Not only did UPF representatives travel to four different countries in one month, representatives from more than a dozen countries attended workshops and planned to carry the message of character education back to their countries. One Muslim representative thought the Discovering the Real Me character education curriculum produced by UPF was just the thing for the Kurdistan region of Iraq, where economic, social, and peace achievements are blossoming but often ignored by the mass media.
Sydney, Australia – RYS Global Management team member, Fazida Razak was invited with Sister Margaret Finlay and Sister Marie Theresa (both RYS alumni) to share at a conference attended by approximately 300 people from various ecumenical backgrounds and all walks of life including students, missionaries and NGOs.
Australia – On November 25th Fazida Razak, an RYS Global manager held an EID celebration at her home in order to celebrate the end of Ramadan. This celebration was also an opportunity to acknowledge the co-partners of Building Bridges events in 2006 and to forge stronger ties for 2007.

At the end of a Religious Youth Service project in Hungary, a Jewish participant told me, "When I see a Muslim I think they want to kill me. But somehow, you have shown me that not all Muslims want to kill Jews. If you ever come to Israel, you are welcome to my house.” That statement changed my life.
In December 2005, tensions arose in the Cronulla suburb of Sydney between local Australian residents and young people of Middle Eastern background. There was a dispute about how women were dressed at the beach. Muslim youth started sending messages by phone to all Middle Eastern and Lebanese youth to invite them to get together on the beach and fight the Australians. There was violence between both sides for several days.
