The UPF and the Religious Youth Service, in association with the Federation of Gandhian Institutions, commemorated the International Day of Peace in Chennai, India on September 21. Interreligious prayers for world peace, nonviolence and ceasefire, and a candlelight vigil marked this occasion.
Gangtok, India - UPF-Sikkim commemorated the UN International Day of Peace on September 21 at a gathering in the Forest Department Conference Hall in Gangtok.
Kathmandu, Nepal - “Women need to be involved in every area of society, including those more traditionally dominated by men,” Dr. Mohini Giri, Chairwoman of India’s Guild of Service and founding president of the Women's Federation for World Peace-India, told a June 23 forum in Nepal that included four Members of Parliament. She specifically named the legal profession, politics, and economic enterprises.
Sikkim and Punjab, India - The United Nations International Day of Families was commemorated on May 15 at the Sikkim Government College in Gangtok, Sikkim, and at the Desh Bhagat Institute of Advanced Computer Sciences in Mandi Gobind Garh, Punjab.

New Delhi, India - Ms. Shalini Dewan, Director of United Nations Information Centre for India and Bhutan, spoke on peace.
Darjeeling, India - Twenty-nine RYS participants, representing various faiths and cultures, gathered to construct a community center of about 1,100 sq. ft for the needy peoples of three villages, thereby providing a much-needed meeting place. Ongoing efforts are being made in the development of a global peace village, and to encourage villagers to become effective decision-makers in the development of their own communities. The community center will also be equipped with important information concerning health and education.
Delhi, India - Interest is growing in UPF's Youth Leadership Training programs in India. Mr. Yeqing Victor Lee, Secretary General of the Washington DC-based Youth Federation for World Peace, was a featured speaker at several events at schools and universities near the nation's capital.
Punjab, India - Four UPF resource persons traveled 1,800 km to conduct five Youth Leadership Training Programs on the theme “Let Us Join Hands to Build a Bright Future” in four major cities of the Punjab.
Your accomplishments for the sake of the Sikkimese people, especially the up-liftment of the poor, downtrodden, and marginalized, are truly remarkable. I am confident that you will achieve your aspiration for the people of Sikkim to be poverty-free and 100 percent literate.
Gangtok, Sikkim, India - The Universal Peace Federation of India honored Dr. Pawan Chamling, Hon. Chief Minister of Sikkim, with the Leadership and Good Governance Award on July 6. The ceremony took place in the Chintan Bhawan Government Hall in Gangtok, the picturesque capital of Sikkim.
