Lima, Peru - Approximately 200 people attended the Fourth Annual Conference of Peruvian Women - 2010 at the Mega Plaza Norte Shopping Center in Lima on November 20. The presentation by sociologist Manuel Arana, an Ambassador for Peace, was entitled "Culture of Peace." It proved to be very inspiring for the audience as they listened to his theme that emphasized the role of women as the main initiator of peace from their place in the home environment to the highest public positions in the nation.
Following the conclusion of his speech Mr. Arana presented Ambassador for Peace certificates to five people, who were warmly applauded by the audience.
This event was co-sponsored by the Foundation ANANAS, which has many associates from the world of show business. The meeting also served to promote UPF's Ambassador for Peace network, which was well accepted by the exhibitors and the general audience.
Many wanted to know more about UPF's work in Peru. For example, Dr. Tomas Mendoza Angulo, a very famous celebrity who has a TV and radio program entitled "Emotional Growth for Couples," and also the organizer of the event, Mrs. Pilar Silvera, want to continue working together with UPF to do more events like this that can help to influence Peruvian society.
This event grew out of the recent reorganization of UPF-Peru in which we established commissions and appointed presidents of them. Sra. Rosa Castillo, President of the Commission for Social Action and long-time leader of Women’s Clubs in Peru (Clubes de Madres), arranged for UPF to cosponsor this conference.
