Nairobi, Kenya - As part of its ongoing program to embrace vulnerable children, Global Peace Festival-Kenya sponsored a Mother and Child Cooperation for Peace event on August 1 at the Thomas Barnados Children's Home in Nairobi. The children competed in various activities such as dancing, art, and poetry. Since it was raining the activities were held indoors. Through the smiling faces in the audience, every child felt appreciated and valued.
Winners in each category received a gift. A girl from Exodus Children's Centre the Machakos district won a scholarship as the all-around "Best Child," having demonstrated good leadership qualities and talent. Nascomm International sponsored the Best Child competition.
In attendance were about 300 children from 14 children’s homes from Nairobi, Machakos, Kiambu and Thika districts. Thirteen prominent women were present, including NGO leaders, religious leaders, representatives of the Ministry of Education, and a doctor. Three news media covered the event.
Food for the event was provided the Satya Hotel, Vegpro Limited, Sai Millers, Adarsh Developers, and the House of Majil. Other donors included Raj Metals (transportation), Tek Pak (spoons and plates), Mr. and Mrs. Meta (medicine), Shelter 2000 (T-shirts), and the Ministry of Held.
