Dhaka, Bangladesh - In March 2014 Dr. Kazi Nurul Islam, professor of world religions and culture at Dhaka University, attended an International Programme on the Contribution of Chiara Lubich in Promoting Interreligious Harmony, where he met Pope Francis.

Abuja, Nigeria - As Nigeria commemorates 100 years (1914 - 2014) of unity in diversity, UPF-Nigeria will be celebrating Nigeria @ 100 with the appointment of 100 outstanding Nigerians and their spouses as Ambassadors for Peace on April 14, 2014 at the Main Auditorium of the National Merit Award House in Maitama, Abuja. The 100 Ambassadors for Peace shall be commissioned and mobilized as a UPF-Nigeria national unity committee.

Parnell, New Zealand - During their first meeting of the new year, Jan. 26, New Zealand Ambassadors for Peace held a forum on intercultural, interreligious and interracial marriages and discussed strategies for developing and expanding the national Ambassador for Peace network.

San Jose, Costa Rica - Marco Campos, age 49, has formed part of the communities of Nosara and Samara for the past 12 years, and his efforts to help these and other communities develop has not gone unnoticed. In December in San Jose, the Universal Peace Federation (UPF) recognized him for his work to benefit the province of Guanacaste and the country.

Buenos Aires, Argentina - Under the motto “Share, acknowledge, and celebrate,” UPF-Argentina closed the activities of 2013 with a Dec. 20 dinner at the Peace Embassy in Buenos Aires, organized along with the Women’s Federation for World Peace of Argentina. It was an emotional reunion, with a familial and interreligious atmosphere, reuniting with old and new friends that were made during this intense year.

London, UK - UPF-UK convened its annual Peace Council meeting on Dec. 7 in its Lancaster Gate headquarters to review progress in its peace initiatives during the year. The day included sessions on values, activities promoting peace, humanitarian efforts and a Youth UPF concert to raise funds for a peace project in Jerusalem.

Auckland, New Zealand - The first monthly Ambassador for Peace meeting was held Nov. 24 at the UPF headquarters in Parnell. All those who participated would surely agree that this semi-formal UPF meeting was well worth the effort and certainly not one to be missed. The evening was well attended not only by Ambassadors for Peace but also included some newcomers. How wonderful it was to experience the lively and cordial atmosphere despite many of the guests being strangers to each other at the outset!

For Bai Rohaniza “Honey” Sumndad- Usman, peace is a way of life. Honey is the recipient of a 2013 “Emerging Peace Champion” Award that highlights women who empower communities and are exemplary peacebuilders. She was appointed an Ambassador for Peace in 2007 by UPF and is also a Princeton Global Network Awardee for World’s Most Accomplished Individuals for year 2009-2010.
