Africa Day

Biel, Switzerland - To create synergy among people from different parts of Africa and Switzerland, the Komagata family hosted 12 people from different African countries at a March meeting to plan an event in honor of Africa Day. Each representative brought creativity and great interest in the goal of organizing a unique program.

Kathmandu, Nepal - The College of Journalism and Mass Communication, in collaboration with its African partners, is organizing for the first time ever in Nepal an African Film Festival May 23-25 at the Russian Cultural Center. Fifteen films will showcase the different African culture and traditions.

Birmingham, UK - The Universal Peace Federation and Women's Federation for World Peace in Birmingham hosted an event in honor of Africa Day. Over 100 people came together, with representatives from 12 different African countries present.

Vienna, Austria - At an Africa Day celebration on June 10, four Africans living in Austria spoke on the theme of the Rapprochement of Cultures between Europe and Africa. This was followed by a concert by Barbara Alli and Afrococo, singing songs by Zeka Kangela from the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Seoul, Korea - An Africa Day Celebration with representatives of 17 nations in attendance took place at the Raemian Hall in Anguk, Seoul on May 25. The prime minister of Zimbabwe, Dr. Morgan Richard Tsvangirai, gave the opening address.

Moscow, Russia - UPF Russia marked Africa Day in two programs on May 25. The Russian Academy of Sciences Institute of Africa invited UPF to make a presentation at the Institute's Africa Day conference. The other event on the day was held by UPF-Russia itself in partnership with one of the largest Russian interethnic NGOs, the Assembly of the Peoples of Russia.
