UPF Chapters Celebrate Africa Day 2013

Programs in commemoration of Africa Day 2013 were organized by UPF in commemoration of 50 years since the formation of the Organization of African Unity/African Union. The African Union celebrations, which are themed “2013, Year of Pan-Africanism and African Renaissance,” began in Addis Ababa on May 25, to be followed by a year of celebrations across the globe. Melbourne, Australia - Africa Day in Australia is an opportunity to celebrate African cultural diversity and unity as well as the economic, spiritual, moral, social, and cultural contributions and successes of Australians from African descent. A week of celebrations began with the Emerge Street Festival on May 18 showcasing local African performing arts talent and continued with dialogues, forums, sports, and a gala dinner on May 25.

UPF-Bonn Celebrates Africa Day

Bonn, Germany - African cultures and traditions were showcased at a June 17 program in Bonn organized by Henriette Bagoussa from Cameroon and some of her friends. “I see more Africans here than at the Bonn Afrikafest the other day,” said one of the guests. A small exhibit of traditional clothes, pieces of art, and typical fruits and food brightened the UPF headquarters. Video and live presentations of drumming and dancing captivated the audience.

Japan for Africa Showcased on Africa Day

Tokyo, Japan - To the tune of Africa’s vibrant rhythms and melodies, about 100 people, more young ones than their seniors, danced around in Tokyo’s African restaurant on May 27. Commemorating Africa Day, UPF-Japan and a non-government organization Team Africa for Peace & Prosperity co-organized an event ‘Amazing Africa – Multi-cultural Experiences.’
