The Barbados National Peace Council, an affiliate of the Universal Peace Federation, was launched on February 22, 2006. It is presently working in community centres in conjunction with the poverty alleviation program to educate our young people about the importance of "support initiatives," character education, and conflict resolution. These are taught on a weekly basis. We are in the process of creating a "Peace Park" and adopting needy families. Plans are afoot to work with other NGOs and churches to have a peace walk and rally in September. We are hoping to have a camp for adolescents.
