Kanagawa, Japan - In commemoration of the UN International Day of Peace, a cleanup project organized by UPF-Japan and YFWP-Japan (Youth Federation for World Peace) in cooperation with the Kanagawa Coastal Environmental Foundation was held at Wada-Nahama beach on the Miura Peninsula of Kanagawa Prefecture on September 15. This was the seventh year of environmental projects.

Tokyo, Japan - Around the second anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami on March 11, the Japanese Archipelago was the setting of prayers for the victims, who number 20,000, including the missing, as well as for reconstruction from the devastation. UPF-Japan organized two such events, on January 24 and February 2.
International Family Ties Promoted in Taiwan

Taipei, Taiwan - Right after the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11, 2011, well over a hundred nations offered their support to the devastated areas and their people, but Taiwan’s was outstanding with its immediate dispatch of rescue teams and donation of about 20 billion yen. As an expression of gratitude, 20 Japanese Ambassadors for Peace traveled to Taiwan on October 11 to build personal connections with their counterparts.

Owing to the latest accident, people’s good faith in nuclear energy has been greatly reduced while trust in the public authorities and the electric companies has fallen to a rock-bottom low. It will not be easy to recover the lost credibility, requiring a long time and sincere efforts including transparency which is a very vital element. In a democratic nation, nuclear energy cannot be sustained without popular trust and support. At the same time, people should deal with matters related to energy and atomic power in more reasonable and cool-headed fashion.
