Lima, Peru - During a time of violent clashes over plans to open up Peru's northern Amazon region to oil and logging companies, UPF-Peru held a forum in the Congress on "Constructing a Culture of Peace."

El mes de junio de 2009 ha sido un mes difícil para el Perú. Tras un largo período de desacuerdo entre el gobierno de García y los pueblos indígenas de la selva en el norte de Perú, los nativos residentes bloquearon las principales carreteras en protesta contra los planes para permitir que las empresas de petróleo y la talla de madera entren en lo que consideran su propia tierra. Por desgracia, la lucha que siguió a este bloqueo dejó 24 policías locales y otras 11 personas muertas. (Estas son cifras oficiales, pero hay rumores de que se ocultan muchos cuerpos después del conflicto.)

San Juan del Alto, Peru - A small farming community in southern Peru benefited from an International Relief Friendship Foundation project in July in which volunteers built a center that can host local government meetings, a community kitchen, and trainings and workshops run by community organizations. In addition, they restored and improved a playground.

In a cooperative meeting arranged with Congresswoman Sra. Margarita Sucari of Puno an interfaith and inter-party meeting was opened at 11.00 am by the Senior Vice President of Congress, Sr. Aldo Estrada.

RYS-Peru Assists in Building a Medical Center for Community of Orphans

Lima, Peru—RYS helped in the building of a medical center for a community of orphans called La Citidad por Nino's. This was the first project run in the Spanish language. The project attracted high profile community and national level leaders included the First Lady, Mrs. Fujimora visited the work sight.
