International Day of Peace Celebrated in DR Congo

The International Day of Peace 2014 was celebrated with events at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kinshasa and in the hall of the Franco-Congolese Alliance in Matadi.
Kinshasa
An International Day of Peace conference on the theme "The Right of Peoples to Peace" took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kinshasa Sept. 27, 2014. There were 63 participants.
With elections approaching, UPF-DR Congo is holding educational programs to increase the peacebuilding capacity of Ambassadors for Peace. [Local and national elections are scheduled for 2015 and 2016.]
Rev. Michel Futila, Secretary General of UPF-DR Congo, spoke o "DR Congo at a Turning Point: Need for Leadership." Prof. Biyoya spoke on "National Peace, Regional Peace and Worldwide Peace through Democratic Elections, Regional Stability and Universal Multilateralism."
Matadi
In Matadi, capital of Bas-Congo near the Atlantic coast, UPF, the Peace Coalition and Jeuness' Espoir held a gathering and prayers for peace on the International Day of Peace Sept. 20 and 21. The event was supported by the local Ministry for Provincial Cohesion and the City Council of Matadi.
