South Korean governments have been informed by the German experience of reunification after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. Goldman Sachs, the leading investment bank, issued a study arguing that better models for Korean reintegration would be the reform of the economies of Vietnam, Mongolia, and the former Eastern European socialist states. Moreover, it said, the two Koreas have remarkable synergies, including talented human capital and rich mineral resources in the North. Read Goldman Sachs' report.

Northeast Asia Peace Initiative Consultation in Moscow

Moscow, Russia - On July 29, UPF-Russia hosted a special consultation on issues related to the Northeast Asia Peace Initiative. The main speaker, Konstantin Zharinov, explained about a project organized on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Korean War, involving Korean War veterans from the Soviet Union. A fundraising campaign will be organized in order to create a commemorative exhibit in a Moscow school about the Korean conflict made with artifacts donated by Soviet veterans.

After Sixty Years, Time to Remember That “Freedom Is Not Free”

Washington, DC - An appreciative crowd gathered near the Korean War Memorial on the National Mall in Washington DC to reflect on the outbreak of the Korean War 60 years ago. The Little Angels Children's Folk Ballet were the star attraction in a special program to honor the veterans from 16 nations who defended freedom on the Korean peninsula.

It seems that there will be no permanent peace regime on the Korean Peninsula without the peaceful settlement of the nuclear issue. Therefore, the nuclear issue and its resolution is the starting point for establishing permanent peace in Korea.
