Moscow, Russia - UPF-Eurasia organized a conference on the theme "Towards the Global Day of Parents" on April 6 at the Peace Embassy in Moscow. Among the participants were experts in science, culture, and education as well as representatives of public and youth organizations.
In the Russian Federation, this year is characterized by increased attention of the state and non-governmental organizations to the issue of strengthening the family. Conference speakers will address proposals for effective interaction of state and non-governmental sectors in implementation of projects aimed at educating young people and uplifting the social status of the family. The conference is one of the UPF programs introducing the Global Day of Parents.
In some nations this new day is already celebrated as an official date. On October 15, 2012, it was adopted by resolution A/RES/66/292 of the 66th UN General Assembly. In this resolution, June 1 was declared the Global Day of Parents in honor of parents all over the world, and aimed at strengthening the family and promoting family values. These and other issues will be discussed during the upcoming forum.
The Conference concluded with a luncheon. In the afternoon, there was a youth forum to discuss future programs in Eurasian nations. On April 7, the day following the conference, additional social service and sports projects were scheduled for youth in partnership with Moscow City Center of Volunteers.
