Parents' Day Celebrated across the US with Panache

The National Parents’ Day Coalition celebrated Parents' Day in a variety of ways across the US during the month of July. The Coalition held two national-level awards ceremonies -- one on the East Coast in New Jersey and one on the West Coast in California.

Moscow, Russia - At the zero kilometer, Resurrection Gate at the Red Square in Moscow, the Junior Athletics marathon "Children against Drugs - I Choose Sport! Towards the Universiade 2013" began on June 1. Each year, the Universal Peace Federation is a co-organizer of the marathon.

Bridgetown, Barbados - The Global Day of Parents was observed in Bridgetown on June 2. The message of the UN Secretary-General was read by Ms. Kimia Hamshaw. Rev. Peter Oscar Phillips spoke about the role of parents. A discussion of the topic continued over lunch.

Buenos Aires, Argentina - "To honor parents is to honor life" was the motto under which the UPF-Argentina held on June 4, the Global Day of Parents, a date set by Resolution 66/292 of the UN General Assembly on September 17, 2012 and honored by the Universal Peace Federation with celebrations and activities around the world.

This celebration was presided by Dr. Julien Francis MOUFONDA, Vice chairman of UPF-Congo; the former Assistant Secretary General of the Organization of African Unity, H.E. Pascal Gayama; and Rev.
