Ambassadors for Peace of Azerbaijan Stand for Strong Families

Baku, Azerbaijan - A conference on "The Global Day of Parents" was held in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, at the Irshad Hotel on May 24, 2013. The event was attended by 60 Ambassadors for Peace of Azerbaijan. The chairman of the National Peace Council, former Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Rahim Huseynov, was MC of the conference. The event was broadcast on the SPACE national TV channel.
Former Prime Minister Huseynov opened the conference. At his suggestion, the participants observed a Minute of Silence in memory of Dr. Sun Myung Moon, Founder of the Universal Peace Federation who passed away last year, and Mr. Toru Nishiwaki, who was the dedicated UPF representative in Azerbaijan during the last ten years of his life.
The first speaker was Mr. Jacques Marion, coordinator of the UPF peace initiatives in Eurasia. In his speech on "The Global Day of Parents and the Mission of Establishing Peace," he explained the history and significance of the new UN Global Day of Parents, to be observed annually on June 1.
Then UPF-Eurasia Secretary General Konstantin Krylov spoke on "UPF and the United Nations," highlighting the value of parents in establishing world peace. He also mentioned Dr. Moon's proposals for establishing “peace zones” in areas of conflict and the peaceful reunification of the Korean Peninsula. Former Prime Minister Huseynov stressed the patriotic spirit of the Korean people and the urgency of the peaceful reunification of the Peninsula.
Among those present were Ambassadors for Peace, including an incumbent Member of Parliament, former ministers, a former Speaker of Parliament, the head of a local women's organization, journalists, professors, and attorneys.
After the presentations, Ambassadors for Peace took the floor. They stressed the importance of the Global Day of Parents, its connection with the time-honored tradition of showing deference to parents, and the important role of parents in shaping the culture of Azerbaijan. Ambassadors for Peace discussed plans for the future and stressed the importance of celebrating the Global Day of Parents in Azerbaijan each year.
At the end of the program, new Ambassadors for Peace were appointed.
During the event, Mr. Marion met the chairwoman of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs, Mrs. Hijran Huseynova. They discussed the prospects of cooperation between UPF and the State Committee for Family, Women and Children's Affairs.
The next day, a seminar on "Women and World Peace – A Unification Thought Approach" took place. Mr. Marion shared the vision and the activities of the Women’s Federation for World Peace in various parts of the world. The seminar was attended by women leaders of Azerbaijan, including Mrs. Elmira Mahaddinli - editor-in-chief of the newspaper News of Baku, Mrs. Makhira Amirhuseynova - President of the public union "Women of the XXI Century," Mrs. Tahira Salmanova - Doctor of Ecology, and Mrs. Mira Afzali - family psychologist. Following the report, participants agreed to work together in peacebuilding activities.
