Dhaka, Bangladesh - During UN Interreligious Harmony Week, the Center for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue of the Department of World Religions and Culture of the University of Dhaka, in collaboration with International Association for Religious Freedom, United Religions Initiative, Religions for Peace and Warm Heart Association Bangladesh, held an interreligious harmony rally on Feb. 2, 2014 on the campus of the University of Dhaka. The rally was inaugurated by Professor A.A.M.S. Arefin Siddique, the vice chancellor of the university.
Speakers included Professor Hirendra Nath Biswas, president of the National Hindu Reformation Society; Professor Sumonkati Barua, a reputed Buddhist scholar; Bhai Manjit Singh of Gurudwara Nanakshahi in Dhaka; Professor Father Tapan De Rozario of the Department of World Religions; Professor Muhammad Elius of the same department, and Professor K.A.M. Saaduddin, a renowned sociologist in Bangladesh.
Many distinguished professors including Professor Azizun Nahar Islam, Professor Nusrat Sultana and Professor Mahbubur Rahman and hundreds of students joined this rally. Professor Kazi Nurul Islam conducted the whole program.
Professor Azizun Nahar Islam and Sultana and Professor Nusrat are active in UPF, as well as Professor Kazi Nurul Islam, who is secretary general of UPF-Bangladesh.
Various electronic and print media gave massive coverage to the rally.
