Lima, Peru - Representatives of various religions gathered at UPF headquarters on Feb. 2 with Ambassadors for Peace to observe the United Nations World Interfaith Harmony Week.

Retired General Hector Jhon Caro, the vice president of UPF-Peru, opened the meeting, followed by master of ceremonies Dr. Manuel Arana, a sociology professor and Ambassador for Peace, who explained the message of UPF International on this occasion.

Thoughts on the subject of interfaith harmony were expressed by Mrs. Dina Salas Montoya, an Adventist chaplain; Mrs. Anat Kehati Trahtemberg, representing Judaism; Miss Giulliana Ramirez Liñan, representing the Islamic Association in Peru; and Rev. Jesús Manuel Mejía Quiroz, an Anglican bishop.

The speakers then were joined by Gen. Caro in a candle-lighting ceremony. Mrs. Faith Jones and Mr. Alberto Florido, the presidents of UPF sister organizations Women’s Federation for World Peace and Family Federation for World Peace and Unification, respectively, also took part in this ceremony. Once all the candles were lit, the participants prayed together for peace and harmony.

The meeting concluded with a performance by a mariachi band of religious music and songs that inspired the audience.
