Lima, Peru—On February 18, 2019, UPF-Peru organized a prayer breakfast for members of the Interreligious Association for Peace and Development (IAPD) to celebrate UN World Interfaith Harmony Week.
The chapter together with IAPD President Bishop Jesus Mejia Quiroz invited representatives of all the religions active in Peru.
Among the guests were eight ministers from the Anglican Catholic Church, three representatives of the Christian Police Association, a minister from the Light in the Desert Christian church, a Catholic from the Guardian Angels group, a representative of the Adventist Church, a Hindu priest, two Muslim imams, and a representative from the Jewish community.
Leaders of the four main religions offered their remarks and prayers, and a video about the interfaith activities of UPF was shown. During the breakfast many shared their thoughts about and hopes for the work of the IAPD in Peru, and future meetings were proposed and it was agreed that these meetings be organized.
Dr. Trevor Jones, president of UPF-Peru, spoke about the history of the chapter and its vision of the importance of the family and its desire to encourage all families to join in programs of rededication of marriage vows that will be taking place in Peru later in 2019. There was a very positive response and one leader of a church invited UPF-Peru to participate in the anniversary celebrations of his church so that the chapter can bring this vision to his congregation.
