Minsk, Belarus—UPF representatives joined two interfaith prayer meetings in honor of World Interfaith Harmony Week 2021.
On February 4, Vitaly Maksimov, UPF-Belarus chairman, participated in a weekly interfaith prayer meeting organized by the House of a Happy Family center for the promotion of family values.
This initiative has become a platform for people practicing different faith traditions to pray together in a warm and trusting atmosphere and to learn about unique ways we relate to our Creator. When we find words and times to pray, then surely God will find time and words to answer us. If we pray from our sincere heart, God will anticipate that we will succeed.
During the meeting, Mr. Maksimov quoted the words of UPF co-founder Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon about a life of prayer:
“Regarding how to pray: When you pray, do not put yourself first. You should not pray from the get-go, ‘Please fulfill my wish!’ Ask to save the world first. Pray that God's desire for the world be fulfilled. You pray, ‘Please help me to obey any of God's orders and give me an attitude to fulfill my responsibilities.’ Not only in your prayer, but practicing it in reality with the same attitude, then you will stand to become a world leader. Therefore, you don't need to pray, ‘I want to be blessed, and make me an important person.’”
On February 5, UPF representatives joined another interfaith prayer meeting held in the New Life church. The program included the reading of words from religious teachings as well as prayers for 2021 to be a year of reconciliation, mutual understanding, and true peace. Participants resolved to spread the message of interfaith harmony and goodwill based on the love of God and love of one’s neighbor.
We all understand that this age of globalization needs enlightened people in each faith who can examine their sacred writings and traditions and identify the aspects that can benefit all humanity. These individuals should honor the divine indwelling in a way that encourages understanding, respect, and cooperation among people of all faiths for the well-being of our communities and peace in the world.
UPF is confident that mutual understanding and interreligious dialogue constitute important dimensions of a culture of peace.
