Quito, Ecuador - The International Day of Peace 2008 was celebrated in Quito at the Plenary Hall of the National Congress of the Republic of Ecuador. The 1,400 participants included the Chinese Ambassador to Ecuador, a representative of the Bolivian Ambassador to Ecuador, and the consuls of Bulgaria, Portugal, and Thailand. Catholic, Episcopal, Anglican, and Protestant religious leaders were present, as well as political leaders, educators, NGO representatives, and the mass media. In addition, the civil defense and fire departments were mobilized.
