Several events were held in honor of the International Day of Peace 2008 throughout Italy. The main ones took place in Milano, Bergamo, Monza, and Sesto San Govanni. Starting September 21, UPF organized a week of events in those cities, with the participation of several associations and institutions and sponsorship of the city halls.
UPF had a planting of “Peace Trees” in a public park, blessed with the prayer of Catholic priests, Protestant pastors, Orthodox priests, Buddhist monks from Tibet and Burma, and Muslim imams. A conference followed the tree planting in each city. The city halls were involved in organizing, printing material, putting posters all over the city, and participating officially in the event itself.
