Bergen aan Zee, Netherlands - On September 19, as part of the UPF European Leadership Conference, "Innovative Approaches to World Peace in the 21st Century," UPF held an afternoon seminar dedicated to the United Nations International Day of Peace, which focused on nuclear disarmament.
The program consisted of a video “We Must Disarm (WMD),” with a short speech by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. Wim Koetsier, Secretary General of UPF-Netherlands, spoke briefly about UPF's approach to bringing peace.
Drs. Dick Leurdijk, Senior Research Fellow at the Netherlands Institute of International Relations, “Clingendael," addressed the topic “The UN International Day of Peace and the Situation in the Middle East,” and Mrs. Dr. Irma Loemban Tobing Klein, former ambassador of Surinam to the United Nations and co-founder and current Chairman of MDG Global Watch, spoke on “The Millennium Development Goals, Dream or Reality?”
The conference ended with dinner, followed by a cultural evening, with contributions from staff and participants.
