Lima, Peru - UPF-Peru held a meeting in the Peruvian Congress on September 21 to celebrate the International Day of Peace. Pastor Dr. Orestes Sanchez, Vice Chair of UPF-Peru, organized the celebration in coordination with Rev. Trevor Jones, President of UPF-Peru. The co-sponsor on this occasion was Congressman Dr. Yonhy Lescano Ancieta, recently re-elected to serve in the parliament for the next four years under the new President of Peru, Mr. Ollanta Humala.

The meeting was opened by Dr. Daniel Abugattas Majluf, President of the Congress, with other congressmen from all parties attending. University students and high school students were among the guests, and representatives of the major religions offered prayers and lit candles for peace.
Mrs. Rebeca Arias, UN Resident Coordinator and the Resident Representative of the UN Development Programme, was a keynote speaker and also read the speech about the International Day of Peace by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
Other speakers included Dr. Marisol Espinoza Cruz, 1st Vice President of Peru, and Dr. Omar Chehade Moya, 2nd Vice President of Peru. The speakers were appointed Ambassadors for Peace.
The meeting was attended by 240 people and covered by the news media.
Comas District
In the district of Comas, an important urban development of Lima, members of UPF and the Family Federation for World Peace organized, together with the local mayor, a march for peace in front of the Town Hall on September 18.
People from other organizations also took part, including descendants of an ancient civilization that lived in this area, the Colli, around 400 AD.
We also presented to some of the dignitaries the autobiography of Rev Moon.
A few days later the mayor and some of his key staff were appointed Ambassadors for Peace during the meeting in the Congress.
