UPF-India organized observances the UN International Day of Peace in several parts of the nation including an intercollegiate footbal tournament and an intercollegiate debate on the theme "Non-violence for Sustainable Peace: Is It Relevant Today?"
New Delhi - In support of the United Nations International Day of Peace, the India Chapter of Universal Peace Federation in joint collaboration with St. Stephen’s College of the University of Delhi organized an Inter-College Football Tournament on the theme of “Play Football Make Peace” September 19 and 20 at the Football Field of Ramjas College of the University of Delhi.
The tournament was played between four teams selected from colleges under the University of Delhi. The Chief Guest at the opening match was Dr. P. N Dutta Gupta, Vice-Principal of Ramjas College. Two matches were played on the 19th: the first game was played between Ram Lal College and St. Stephen’s College; the St. Stephen’s College team won and secured their position in the finals. The second match was played between Ramjas College and Zakir Hussain College, which the Zakir Hussain College team won, securing their position for final game. The final game was played on the 20th between St. Stephen’s College and Zakir Hussain College.

For prize distribution to the winner and runner-up, the former International Football Player National Sports Award Winner Mr. Aziz Quraishi was invited as the chief guest. The Zakir Hussain College won the final match 3-0 and became the winner of this first-ever such tournament in India. The winners and runners-up were awarded the trophies with medals and certificates to all to all players. The player of the tournament trophy was given to Mr. Rohan Chettri of Zakir Hussain College.
At the prize distribution Ceremony, the Chief Guest of the event Mr. Aziz Quraishi was appointed an Ambassadors for Peace. In his address, the Chief Guest expressed his thanks to UPF for organizing such a tournament for peace; he added this tournament must the first such kind in the whole country organized by anyone. The reflection of the players was also the same. They said that they never thought that football can be played for peace.
In the program Mr. Krishna Adhikari explained the purpose of organizing this event on the occasion of United Nations International Day of Peace and highlighted the vision of UPF Founder about propagating peace through sports, especially through football with the theme “Play Football Make Peace.”
In this program, Rev. Clement Rajakumar, Vice Principal of St. Stephen’s College, together with the Sports Coordinator of Ramjas College played vital roles in organizing this tournament successfully.
