Day of Peace Observed in Yaounde and Buea

The International Day of Peace was celebrated on September 21 in Yaoundé in the Center Region and Buea in the South West Region of Cameroon under the theme of "Peace and Democracy: Let your voice be heard."

Yaounde - Originally, the International Day of Peace was supposed to be celebrated in Makenene, a town in the Center Region where the Vice President of UPF-Cameroon is mayor. But due to health problems this could not take place.

However, we decided to hold a symbolic event starting at 5:00 pm in “Hotel des Deputés” in Yaoundé gathering 28 participants from various backgrounds. Among them were Members of Parliament, journalists, clergy, university students, teachers, and civil servants.

Mr. Ndode George as MC guided us all through the celebration. The program started with a prayer for peace given by a priest, Lolo Jacques, followed by the National Anthem of Cameroon and a song of peace entitled “Peace Is Not a Word but a Way of Life." The regional coordinator of UPF, Mr. Nyari Mathieu, welcomed all the participants. The message of the UN Secretary-General was read by Prof. Mono Ndzana, an Ambassador for Peace. After the UN message, Madam Van Iersel Rachel read the UPF message.

Finally, the closing remarks were given by the National Coordinator, Mrs. Lau Asong. At the end of the presentations, one medical doctor stated, "I am amazed that Rev. Moon‘s vision of peace through the Universal Peace Federation is very deep. I am touched to understand that peace starts in each individual’s heart, meaning that each of us has an important role to play for the establishment of peace in the world."

A family photo and some snacks ended the celebration.

Buea - UPF-South West Region led by John Tazifor organized a celebration of the International Day of Peace at the hall of the Baha'i Community in Buea. Invitations were widely distributed, and 20 participants attended the program.

The head table was comprised of Magistrate Rose Chi (who represented and gave a speech in her capacity as chairperson of UPF), Mme. Arrah (from the Baha'i community), and John Tazifor. The MC and coordinator of the program was pap Martins Enow

The event ended with refreshments provided by UPF-Buea.
