UPF-Italy organized programs commemorating the International Day of Peace in Bergamo and Monza.
Bergamo - A day of dialogue and prayer was organized by Ambassador for Peace Don Luciano Sanvito in a church in Bergamo; 19 people participated. In the evening, UPF-Bergamo organized a commemoration of the Day of Peace attended by Catholics, Protestants, Muslims, Hindus, and Unificationists. The program included a reading of the UPF declaration on the International Day of Peace and a water for peace ceremony, in which representatives of various faiths poured water into a large bowl, symbolizing their joint commitment to cooperation and sharing. Plans were made to meet monthly to research social problems and plan joint activities by people of many faiths to address them.
Monza - Carlo Chierico and Alberto Zoffili organized a commemoration in the square in front of the city hall. Catholics, Protestants, Muslims, Hindus, Scientologists, and Unificationists offered prayers for peace and reconciliation. Local politicians, poets, and musicians joined in with readings, poems, and songs. Alberto Zoffili, representing Unificationism, read excerpts of Rev. Sun Myung Moon's autobiography. A crowd of more than 60 people gathered to support the event, which was covered by local television and newspapers.
